Basically it would be nice to be able to add Configurable Values on the fly while creating a Lead or Contact.

It's a bit of a pain to have to go to the Admin screen to do that then come back to the Contact page.

Setting up the configurable values is something that only admins can do. They are also meant to be a fairly rigid set of fields that should change that much, hence them being a bit more involved to setup.

If you have stuff that you want to update and change all the time I'd suggest looking at tagging items as this is more what they are designed for.

The configurable values will be used more in reports (check out our roadmap ) and it's worth bearing that in mind when setting them up (we thought people would probably have 5-10 values in each).
